We are often asked if we can support OSHA 1910.119, which specifies process safety management for highly hazardous chemicals. This regulation requires that the preventative maintenance schedules for all pressure relief valves be tracked.

The answer is yes! We use a GE web-based software system called ValvKeep (VK). Watch the video to learn more about ValvKeep, and then see below for the answers to some of the most common questions we get about the software.

ValvKeep Q&A

How do I access ValvKeep?

You can access ValvKeep 24/7 using any computer that has an Internet connection. Click here to login to ValvKeep directly from our website.

Is it private?

Yes! The data you store in ValvKeep is completely private. A valid username and password are required to access all historical and current records.

What kind of data can I store in ValvKeep?

ValvKeep is a highly flexible application that allows you to store all of the information related to every valve and actuator in your facility. You can also attach pictures, MSDS sheets, testing sheets, engineering sizing sheets, and other specialized documents to individual valve records.

Who owns the data?

You do. We can help you upload the data and create your preventative maintenance schedules, but the data you store in ValvKeep is yours and you can remove it from the system at any time.

How does ValvKeep help me schedule preventative maintenance?

ValvKeep identifies how long your valves have been in service and allows you to set up customized preventative maintenance schedules per valve. You can monitor when valves are due for service and plan ahead to schedule them into your next outage. You can also identify any valves that are not reaching the preventative maintenance timeframes you require and evaluate why.

How does ValvKeep help me stay compliant with local jurisdictional requirements?

In addition to helping you create appropriate preventative maintenance schedules, ValvKeep allows you to track compliance across your organization. For example, if you manage multiple facilities, storing your data in a centralized location will help you ensure that all of your locations are in compliance with company policies.

How does ValvKeep help me identify bad actors?

If you have a bad actor (i.e., a valve that isn’t performing the it’s supposed to be), you can use ValvKeep to access historical records for that valve. It may be that the valve needs to be serviced or replaced, or it may be that the valve that is installed isn’t the correct one for that application (e.g., a valve is good to 90%, but it is being used at 95%). Our certified technicians can help you uncover the cause of the problem and review the solution with your process safety manager or reliability coordinator.

How does ValvKeep help me control my costs?

ValvKeep allows you to control your budget by setting up a pro-active maintenance plan instead of a reactive one. The software also allows you to manage spare valves and parts. For example, if you have multiple locations and need to replace a valve at one of them, you can use the software to locate a spare at a different facility.

Can I print records directly from ValvKeep?

Yes! You can view or print all certified valve travelers from any computer. When your local jurisdictional body visits your location to audit your valve history, you can easily create PDF files for all valves to show you are in compliance.

Is ValvKeep difficult to use?

Not at all! The system is very user-friendly. To assist you, we provide complete on-site training and technical support.

What do I need to get started with ValvKeep?

To get started, all we need is a spreadsheet with the location, tag information, and history of all of your installed valves. We can also arrange for one of our certified valve technicians to visit your location and perform a site walk-down to gather the required information.
